THE LOWDOWN

NAPOLI

Defending champions Napoli have endured a really difficult campaign having moved onto their third manager of the campaign last month after the failed stints of both Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri. The current Slovakia boss Francesco Calzona, former assistant to Maurizio Sarri, is in the Neapolitans’ dugout.

Performances had improved for Napoli but there was a dip just before the international break, which included a 4-2 aggregate loss to Barcelona in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. That means they have now got a record of two victories, one defeat and four draws in seven matches across all competitions since Calzona’s appointment.

ATALANTA

In what was supposed to be a transitional campaign with a young squad for Atalanta, still coached by Gian Piero Gasperini, but it has instead been an impressive season across all competitions as they push for UEFA Champions League qualification in Serie A and they are also in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia and the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League for next month.

The Bergamasci come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat of Sporting CP in the second-leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie, winning 3-2 on aggregate. Atalanta have suffered just three defeats in their last 19 matches across all competitions in an impressive run of form stretching back to early-December.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Carenesecchi; Djimsiti, Hien, Scalvini; Zappacosta, Ederson, Pasalic, Ruggeri; Lookman, Koopmeiners; Scamacca

THE PREDICTION

Francesco Calzona has suffered one defeat but there has been a fair bit of frustration with their improved performances yet to bare the fruit of attacking and genuine attacking efficiency, even despite their 6-1 hammering of Sassuolo. They now face an Atalanta side that have been magnificent for a few months now and will be very confident when they head to Naples. Every Calzona coached Napoli game has finished with both teams scoring and this one also seems likely to be the same.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
