THE LOWDOWN

LECCE

Last summer, Lecce lost their manager Marco Baroni and replaced him with former Benevento coach Roberto D’Aversa. However, after a fairly underwhelming campaign, D’Aversa was eventually sacked last month after headbutting forward Thomas Henry of Hellas Verona following Lecce’s 1-0 loss to Verona.

Now coached by Luca Gotti, Lecce come into this one on the back of struggling Sassuolo in their most recent outing last weekend as they enjoyed a 3-0 victory with goals from Valentin Gendrey, Patrick Dorgu and Roberto Piccoli. Lecce have suffered just one defeat since the aforementioned appointment of Gotti.

MONZA

Monza remain an ambitious team in Serie A with the Lombardian club aiming to achieve a top eight finish and potential UEFA Europa Conference League qualification this season after gaining promotion to the top-flight of Italian football for the first time ever in 2022. They begin the match day sitting firmly in mid-table.

They do, though, come into this one on the back of a poor recent run of form having collected just a point from their last four matches and that means they are six points adrift of the top eight and the European spots with five games of the 2023/24 season to go. They come into this one on the back of a 2-1 loss at home to Atalanta last weekend.

THE PREDICTION

With just five games of this season to go, Lecce have managed to extend their lead over the bottom three and the relegation places to seven points. Under Gotti, they edged past Salernitana, held high-flying Roma, lost to Milan and have since enjoyed back-to-back victories against Empoli and Sassuolo. In contrast, Monza have drifted away from the European spots and these are two sides trending in very different directions. As a result, as well as their home advantage, backing Lecce looks the way to go for this one.

TIP: LECCE TO WIN
