THE LOWDOWN

LECCE

After 27 matches so far this season, Lecce have managed just five victories with ten draws and 12 defeats. The amount of draws has helped them to steer away from the bottom three and the relegation places, beginning the 28th match day of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign sitting up in 13th in the table but just two points clear of the drop zone.

Coached by former Benevento coach Roberto D’Aversa, Lecce come into this one on the back of sharing a 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Frosinone in their most recent outing, last weekend. That draw came on the back of three successive defeats in which they had conceded ten goals and they have managed just one win in their last 11 games.

HELLAS VERONA

After narrowly avoiding the drop by winning the end of season relegation playoff against Spezia last year, Hellas Verona began this season with back-to-back victories. Verona had only ever done that once before and they went on to win their only ever Scudetto when they did. This time, though, they are very much involved in the relegation battle once again.

In their subsequent 25 matches this season, Verona have enjoyed just three more victories but they come into this one on the back of a win in their most recent outing. Up against a poor Sassuolo side at the Bentegodi, Karol Swiderski scored a 79th minute winning goal to lift them outside of the bottom three and the relegation places ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.

THE TEAM NEWS

LECCE

Lecce have a couple of issues for this one as Kastriot Dermaku is doubtful this weekend, whilst Federico Brancolini is also unavailable for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Falcone; Gendrey, Pongracic, Baschirotto, Gallo; Kaba, Ramadani; Almqvist, Rafia, Banda; Krstovic

UNAVAILABLE: Brancolini (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Dermaku (Injured)

HELLAS VERONA

Hellas Verona have no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for this weekend’s trip to Lecce with only Juan Manuel Cruz a doubt for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Montipo; Tchatchoua, Coppola, Dawidowicz, Cabal; Suslov, Serdar, Duda, Lazovic; Noslin, Henry

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Cruz (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

After that aforementioned relegation playoff, Verona went and pinched Lecce boss Marco Baroni and now he returns to Stadio Comunale Ettore Giardiniero – Via del mare for the first time since his departure. Baroni will be aiming to make a statement down in the south of Italy and buoyant from their win last weekend, as well as the really poor form of Lecce, siding with the away team would appear the best bet for this one.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – HELLAS VERONA TO WIN OR DRAW
