It has been a turbulent campaign for Frosinone following promotion last season but they, like Udinese, head into the final day of the campaign still in the fight against the drop.

FROSINONE PREVIEW: ROME IS FALLING

After gaining promotion to Serie A last season, Frosinone took the surprising decision to part ways with Fabio Grosso and replace him with former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco. Di Francesco’s fun but, frankly, quite naïve style of football has been entertaining to watch but it has been a return to defensive solidity that means they begin the weekend sitting outside of the bottom three.

The Romans’ 37 matches so far this season have consisted of 112 goals but their last seven games since the beginning of April have had just 13 goals with five of those being scored by Inter. They earned a much-needed and desperate 1-0 defeat of Monza at Stadio Brianteo last weekend thanks to a ninth minute winner via Walid Cheddira.

UDINESE PREVIEW: FABIO’S FRIULIANS FIGHTING

For much of the campaign, Udinese performed quite well but the Pozzo-owned club, as is their wont, churned through managers Andrea Sottil and former Crawley Town boss Gabriele Cioffi with too many draws meaning they have been involved in a relegation battle throughout the campaign. The Friulians, though, have majorly improved since the appointment of Fabio Cannavaro.

Despite the improvement and appointment of the 2006 FIFA World Cup winning captain, Udinese’s propensity to draw has still been remarkable, even in fairly comical circumstances. Last weekend they went behind in the 90th minute against struggling rivals Empoli before Lazar Samardzic scored an equalising penalty in the 104th minute.

FROSINONE TEAM NEWS: NO FRESH CONCERNS

As mentioned, Frosinone’s improvement has been built upon an emphasis on their defensive record which also came about with a switch in formation to a 3-4-2-1. The compromise in Di Francesco’s principles will not be affected by any new injury issues this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Cerofolini; Lirola, Romagnoli, Okoli; Zortea, Brescianini, Barrenechea, Valeri; Soule, Harroui; Cheddira

UNAVAILABLE: Mazzitelli (Injured), Turati (Injured), Oyono (Injured), Kalaj (Injured)

UDINESE TEAM NEWS: THAUVIN MISSES THE END

In what could well be a must win game for Fabio Cannavaro and his Udinese side, they will be without key attacker Florian Thauvin, who has recently sustained a thigh injury. He joins the sidelines alongside the likes of Sandi Lovric and former Watford man Gerard Deulofeu.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Okoye; Kristensen, Bijol, Perez; Ehizibue, Walace, Payero, Kamara; Samardzic, Isaac; Lucca

UNAVAILABLE: Silvestri (Injured), Thauvin (Injured), Lovric (Injured), Vivaldo (Injured), Deulofeu (Injured)

FROSINONE VS UDINESE PREDICTION

Right so, straight to the permutations. There is one relegation spot up for grabs and if Empoli fail to beat Roma then they are down but an Empoli win puts both of these sides in trouble because a win or draw for Frosinone will relegate Udinese with an Udinese win relegating Frosinone. We could have an absolute thriller down in the capital in which both teams simply have to be proactive and on the front foot to make sure they are not reliant on Roma to do them a favour.
