THE LOWDOWN
FIORENTINA
Vincenzo Italiano took Fiorentina to the final of both the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Europa Conference League last season but I Viola have already fallen short of one of those achievements this time around as they come into this one on the back of being knocked out of the Coppa Italia at the semi-final stage.
They won the first-leg of that tie by a goal to nil at the Artemio Franchi but their poor performances were then reflected by their 4-1 loss in the second-leg in midweek. They are, though, still in the semi-finals of the aforementioned UEFA Europa Conference League after they recently edged past Viktoria Plzen.
SASSUOLO
After another underwhelming and disappointing campaign from former Empoli boss Alessio Dionisi, Sassuolo took the decision to sack Dionisi in February. He was replaced by Davide Ballardini and performances have improved but they remain firmly tucked inside the bottom three and the relegation places.
They do, though, sit just two points off safety as we begin the 34th match day. Sassuolo come into this one on the back of a 3-0 hammering at home to fellow strugglers Lecce in their most recent outing, last weekend, with goals from Valentin Gendrey, Patrick Dorgu and Roberto Piccoli. They are now winless in their last five matches.

Former Roma striker and Italy international striker Andrea Belotti is a doubt for this weekend’s clash with Sassuolo but they will be able to name an unchanged eleven.

THE PREDICTION
Neither of these teams have fulfilled the style of football that they have intended to play. Sassuolo were always expected to be attacking and on the front foot but they have underwhelmed both in terms of performances and their results. Fiorentina have also been a bit of a ‘let down’ on last season even if they are still in a European semi-final. As a result of both teams underwhelming, this one is not expected to be a thriller for the neutral this weekend as Sassuolo scavenge for any points.
