THE LOWDOWN

ATALANTA

Atalanta come into this one on the back of a magnificent performance in result under the management of the impressive Gian Piero Gasperini. The Bergamasci went to Anfield and hammered Liverpool by three goals to nil in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final with a brace from Gianluca Scamacca and a late strike from Mario Pasalic.

Prior to that impressive victory against the Reds, Atalanta had suffered a 1-0 loss to Fiorentina in the first-leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie before then suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to struggling Cagliari in Serie A with the Sardinians scoring a second-half stoppage-time winner in that game last weekend.

HELLAS VERONA

Last summer, Marco Baroni left Lecce and was appointed manager of Hellas Verona and they began the season with back-to-back victories for the second time ever with the first time being when they won Serie A. They then endured a 14-match winless run of form and head into the run in firmly in the middle of the relegation battle.

The visitors begin this match day sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places with four victories in 29 games since winning their first two matches. They took the lead at home to Genoa last weekend via Federico Bonazzoli in the eight minute before losing 2-1 to Genoa at the Bentegodi.

THE PREDICTION

For the large part of this calendar year, Atalanta have been really impressive and they remain in the hunt for a top four or five finish and potential UEFA Champions League qualification this season. However, they have slipped a little domestically and could also take their eye off the ball this weekend as they prepare to finish the job against Liverpool. Verona, though, despite their improvement in the last month and a half or so, are a generally weak team and Atalanta should come out on top, especially with their home advantage.

TIP: ATALANTA TO WIN
