THE TEAM NEWS

ALEMANNIA AACHEN

  • Alemannia Aachen have one draw and one defeat to their name in their regional division, heading into their first DFB Cup match since 2012.
  • Coach Fuat Kilic made two changes to his side for last Saturday’s encounter with Fortuna Dusseldorf reserves, with Florian Ruter and David Bors preferred to Sebastian Schmitt and Gary Noel in attack.
  • Right-back Can Hayri Ozkan and midfielder Kai-David Bosing will again miss out because of injury but otherwise Kilic has a full squad for this clash with the nearby Bundesliga giants.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN

  • Bayer Leverkusen finished strongly in the Bundesliga last term but they have had a disappointing pre-season, winning just one and losing five of their eight pre-season friendlies.
  • The club lost star man Julian Brandt at the end of last season but have reinforced with the signings of Hoffenheim duo Nadiem Amiri and Kerem Demirbay, winger Moussa Diaby and left-back Daley Sinkgraven.
  • Lars Bender, Mitchell Weiser and Joel Pohjanpalo will not feature after picking up knocks recently, but Sven Bender and Karim Bellarabi are fit again after sitting out the last friendly against Valencia.

THE PREDICTION

It is eight years since Bayer Leverkusen have been knocked out in the first round of this competition and it would be a huge shock if they were to slip up against fourth-tier Alemannia Aachen. However, given Leverkusen’s rusty form during pre-season, both teams to score does have some appeal.
