THE LOWDOWN

BOCHUM

Bochum’s awful 2-0 defeat at the hands of Mainz just prior to the international break was their fourth loss in a row and sees them now firmly entrenched in the relegation battle with five points now separating them from the bottom three. Despite that gap though, Bochum are sliding alarmingly and it’s hard to see where their next point is coming from at this stage.

DARMSTADT

Darmstadt’s return to the 2. Bundesliga appears a formality now at this point, with a seven-point gap now between them and Mainz, the current occupiers of the relegation play-off place heading into Sunday’s fixtures. Expecting a team who have won just two matches and lost 17 in the Bundesliga so far this season to dramatically turn things around just seems unrealistic. But stranger things have happened in the German top flight.

DARMSTADT

THE PREDICTION

This could wind up being a very cagey battle between two teams allergic to winning all season, both coming off the back of losing streaks and each well-aware of the ramifications that come from suffering defeat in a game such as this. Despite being at home, Bochum won’t want to give Darmstadt’s attackers a sniff and are unlikely to take any huge risks unless they fall behind. Darmstadt need the points far more but their lack of composure in front of goal may be what proves their undoing. Under 2.5 goals scored looks to be on the cards in a match that will probably be very low on offensive quality.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
