THE TEAM NEWS
MAINZ
- Mainz went down to their third defeat in four games at Fortuna Dusseldorf last Saturday, leaving them second from bottom in the table.
- Midfielder Edimilson Fernandes is suspended after his dismissal at Dusseldorf and his likely replacement, Danny Latza, is nursing a knee injury so Ridle Baku could start.
- Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi was handed his first start against Dusseldorf but after being taken off at half-time, it seems unlikely he will keep his place.
Predicted line-up (4-4-2): Zentner; Brosinski, St. Juste, Niakhate, Aaron Martin; Oztunali, Malong, Baku, Boetius; Quaison, Onisiwo
Unavailable: Bell (Injured), Mateta (Injured), Seydel (Injured), Ji Dong-Wong (Injured), Fernandes (Suspended)
Doubtful: Muller (Illness), Latza (Injured)
KOLN
- Koln have shown improvement in their last two games and moved out of the bottom three with a big 3-0 win at home to fellow promoted side Paderborn last Sunday.
- Coach Achim Beierlorzer welcomes centre-back Jorge Mere back from suspension but he may have to settle for a place on the bench after a standout performance from Sebastiaan Bornauw against Paderborn.
- Winger Florian Kainz came off with a knock in that game but is expected to be fit for this one, but Birger Verstraete and Matthias Bader remain doubtful.
Predicted line-up (4-2-3-1): Horn; Ehizibue, Czichos, Bornauw, Katterbach; Skhiri, Hector; Schindler, Schaub, Kainz; Terrode
Unavailable: Clemens (Injured), Sobiech (Injured)
Doubtful: Verstraete (Injured), Drexler (Injured), Bader (Injured), Kainz (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
Just a point separates these two sides at the bottom of the table but Koln go into Friday's meeting in slightly better form. Their 3-0 win over Paderborn last weekend will have boosted their confidence and they are certainly worth backing against a Mainz side who have largely been poor this season.
