THE TEAM NEWS
FREIBURG
- Freiburg remained in the hunt for the final European spot with a two-all draw with Wolfsburg on Saturday but may live to rue the fact they could not go on and win that game after fighting back from two goals down.
- Freiburg found themselves facing defeat after going 2-0 down inside 30 minutes but goals either side of the break from Lucas Holer and Roland Sallai put them right back in the hunt for sixth against the side occupying that position.
- However, they could not build on those two goals and had to settle for a point to leave them four points behind Wolfsburg with just nine to play for but they have suffered a double injury blow with Holer and Robin Koch both struggling back issues.
HERTHA
- Hertha failed to bounce back from their first defeat in seven Bundesliga matches as they suffered a second consecutive loss with ill-discipline seeing them suffer a heavy loss at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend.
- Hertha looked set to get back to winning ways thanks to Krzysztof Piatek’s first half strike giving them the lead at the break but Dedryck Boyata’s red card on the stroke of half-time turned the game on its head as the 10 men conceded four second half goals.
- Boyata will now be banned for this game to add to Hertha’s long list of unavailable players with Per Ciljan Skjelbred and Lazar Samardzic both picking up knocks at the weekend while Maximmilian Mittelstadt has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.
THE PREDICTION
Freiburg were unable to overcome Wolfsburg at the weekend as the gap
between the two teams remained at four points and that may now be too
much for the former to chase down in the race for sixth spot. They host
Hertha who suffered a second half collapse after going down to 10 men in
their game with Eintracht Frankfurt and have a long injury list to
contend with as they attempt to bounce back from two straight losses.
Both teams are capable of winning and in a game that could go either
way, it is likely that there will be goals at either end.
