THE TEAM NEWS
BAYERN MUNICH
- Bayern Munich claimed an eighth consecutive Bundesliga title thanks to a narrow success against Werder Bremen in midweek and they will now look to build some further momentum to lead into August’s Champions League clash with Chelsea.
- Robert Lewandowski marked his return from a one-match ban with the game’s only game to take his tally for the campaign to 31 but Bayern did have to ride out a late storm after they were reduced to 10 men following Alphonso Davies’ red card with 11 minutes to play.
- Davies will now sit this contest out as a result with Lucas Hernandez expected to come back into the side in the Canadian’s absence but Javi Martinez remains a doubt after also missing the Bremen match.
FREIBURG
- Freiburg remained right in the hunt for a European spot with sixth place a real possibility after an impressive 2-1 victory over Hertha on Tuesday but they are likely to need something from this trip to Bayern Munich to remain in contention for that standing.
- They come into this contest just one point behind Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim thanks to goals from Vincenzo Grifo and Nils Petersen either side of a Hertha penalty sealed the vital three points.
- Petersen is ending the season in fine form but he will hope his third goal in five games is enough to earn a start after he was once again a substitute in midweek while there are doubts over the fitness of Robin Koch for this clash.
THE PREDICTION
Freiburg will hope that Bayern Munich are not on their game after the
hosts wrapped up the Bundesliga title in midweek. The visitors made it
seven points from a possible nine in their game with Hertha on Tuesday
to stay right in the mix for a top six place. Those aspirations could be
ended if results do not go their way this weekend but they know it will
be a tough test against the newly-crowned champions who have won 11
consecutive league matches and they are likely to fall short in a game
where both teams should score.
