THE LOWDOWN

MONACO

Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter, Monaco have been entertaining throughout the campaign. In their 29 matches of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign, the Monagasque have been involved in games that have produced 93 goals. They are also aiming for UEFA Champions League qualification.

The principality club begin the week sitting tucked inside the top three after an improved run of form. Monaco enjoyed an impressive 2-0 defeat of Stade Brest at the weekend with goals from Denis Zakaria and Takumi Minamino. That victory means they have won five and drawn two of their last seven matches.

LILLE

Coached by former Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca, Lille have produced a really impressive season with an easy on the eye style of football balanced by an impressive defensive record that has seen them keep over 20 clean sheets across all competitions. The northerners sit tucked inside the top four ahead of this week.

As they challenge for UEFA Champions League qualification, they also enjoyed a good run to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League before a penalty shootout defeat to Aston Villa last week. They recovered from that loss to the Villains, though, by edging past Strasbourg by a goal to nil with a 12th minute winner from Jonathan David.

THE PREDICTION

This is a huge game as we head into the final few weeks of the Ligue 1 campaign. If Lille were to go to Stade Louis II and overcome Monaco then they will leapfrog their opposition as they both challenge for a top four finish. Monaco’s games have averaged over three goals per game this season, whilst Lille are a progressive team, despite their impressive defensive record. Both teams scoring looks a good bet for this one.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
