Following promotion from Ligue 2 last season, Metz have endured a topsy turvy campaign but the home team are heading into the final three matches of the 2023/24 season in a genuinely decent position to eventually avoid the drop. The home team begin this weekend sitting in the relegation playoff place.
The home team had enjoyed back-to-back victories, sparked by Georgia international Georges Mikautadze, against Lens and Le Havre before then suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Lille last weekend in a game in which Mikautadze opened the scoring from the spot before Ismaily and Yusuf Yazici turned the game around.
RENNES
During the November international break, Stade Rennais took the decision to replace former Olympique Lyonnais boss Bruno Genesio with the returning Julian Stephan. They significantly improved immediately after his arrival but are now finishing the season with a bit of a whimper as they drift into the middle-of-the-table.
Rennes’ most recent outing saw them suffer an incredible 5-4 loss to Stade Brest at home last weekend. Rennes led that game 2-0 inside the opening nine minutes before Brest went 4-2 up in the 66th minute, Rennes fought back to make it 4-4 but then Lilian Brassier notched a 96th minute winner.

Metz have one of the most in-form strikers in Europe in Georges Mikautadze, which is interesting ahead of UEFA EURO 2024 and the Georgian national side as a side note, and, coached by Laszlo Boloni, have given themselves a real chance of survival. They always stand a chance of scoring. They come up against a Rennes side that are underperforming in terms of results but they are really putting on a show in these final few weeks so both teams scoring looks a good bet for this one this weekend.
