THE LOWDOWN

METZ

Under the management of Hungarian coach Laszlo Boloni, Metz begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the bottom two and the automatic relegation places in Ligue 1 after a terrible run of form. Boloni is coming under serious pressure but remains in charge of the club that gained promotion back to the top-flight last season.

They had started the season quite well but they now come into this one on the back of a 3-0 loss away to fellow strugglers, Montpellier Herault, pushing them adrift in the aforementioned bottom two. They are winless in their last ten matches across all competitions, collecting just one point from their last nine Ligue 1 matches.

LYON

After a turbulent summer and then a miserable start to the campaign, which involved both Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso being sacked before Pierre Sage took charge of the club in early December. Olympique Lyonnais have been much-improved since Pierre Sage was appointed, though, as they climb from rock-bottom in Ligue 1 into the middle-of-the-table.

Lyon come into this one on the back of yet another victory as they edged past Nice by a goal to nil at Parc OL with a 22nd minute winning goal scored by Orel Mangala. They have now enjoyed three successive victories in the league with nine wins and two losses in their last 11 games across all competitions.

THE TEAM NEWS

LYON

Pierre Sage has a few issues as Nicolas Tagliafico is suspended, whilst the likes of Corentin Tolisso and Dejan Lovren are out injured this weekend for Lyon.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Lopes; Maitland-Niles, Mata, Caleta-Car, Diomande; Caqueret, Matic, Mangala; Nuamah, Lacazette, Benrahma

THE PREDICTION

No more than two months ago, Metz may have eyed up this late-February clash as a chance to bury the seven-time French champions Lyon into a miserable relegation. However, we now have Metz spiralling more or less out of control to an immediate return to Ligue 2, whilst OL may not have actually ruled out somehow pushing themselves towards the top six and the European spots. The visitors are one of the strongest teams in the country at the moment and they are the firm favourites on Friday evening.

TIP: LYON TO WIN
