LYON PREVIEW: THE LEAGUE’S BEST?

In the first-half of the campaign, Olympique Lyonnais spent the vast majority of it sitting in the bottom two and the automatic relegation places with both Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso sacked by early December. However, ever since the appointment of Pierre Sage, they have collected the most points in Ligue 1.

Their excellent form continued last weekend with a slender 1-0 win at Stade Gabriel Montpied against already relegated Clermont via a 53rd minute Orel Mangala winner. That made it three successive victories for Lyon and they head into the final day with the chance to guarantee themselves European qualification next season.

STRASBOURG PREVIEW: GETTING THROUGH TO THE END

Much like a fellow Ligue 1 club in Lorient, Strasbourg have been distracted throughout the season by supporter unrest and off-field protests as a result of their American-led takeover by BlueCo and Todd Boehly. They have underwhelmed throughout the campaign on the pitch, too, under the management of former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira.

The visitors begin the final match day sitting in the bottom-half of the table but they do come into this one on the back of a slender 2-1 defeat of Metz in their most recent outing, last weekend, at Stade de la Meinau. They came from behind very late on with goals from Emmanuel Emegha and Andrey Santos.

LYON TEAM NEWS: FULLY FIT SQUAD

LYON VS STRASBOURG PREDICTION

The hosts have been magnificent since Pierre Sage’s appointment. European football remains in their hands regardless of what happens this weekend but, quite frankly, their form since early December has been reminiscent of the great Lyon side of the 2000s. Strasbourg have stumbled through this campaign and will want it over and done with as soon as possible so a fairly comfortable Lyon win is to be expected.
