THE LOWDOWN

LYON

It had been a really, really underwhelming first-half of the season for Olympique Lyonnais as they languished in the bottom two and the automatic relegation places for much of the campaign. However, the early-December appointment of Pierre Sage, who was their third manager of the campaign, has led to a major improvement as they propel themselves into the middle-of-the-table.

Both Fabio Grosso and Laurent Blanc failed to get much out of this Lyon side but they now begin the weekend not totally out of the top six or European qualification contention. Their 3-2 defeat of Toulouse a couple of weeks ago means that they have won 13 of their last 16 matches across all competitions.

REIMS

Pressure is actually mounting on Stade de Reims boss Will Still, especially with the English-Belgian coach suggesting he would be open to a move to an exciting ambitious Championship side, amid links with Sunderland. They have spent relatively heavily this season but are languishing in the middle-of-the-table after 26 matches so far this season.

They did, though, head into the March international break on the back of some much-improved form. Reims went into the break on the back of a 2-1 defeat of struggling Metz a couple of weeks ago and that means they have now suffered just one loss in their last five matches in France’s top-flight.

THE PREDICTION

In the opening few months of this season, these two sides were operating in different areas of the table with Lyon languishing in the relegation battle, whilst Reims attempted to earn themselves a top six spot and justify their season’s spending. Now, though, roles have sort of reversed, albeit Reims are nowhere near the bottom three. Lyon have become one of the best sides in France since mid-December and they are favourites for this one, especially with their home advantage.

TIP: LYON TO WIN
