THE LOWDOWN

LYON

It was a turbulent summer and a truly terrible start to the season for Olympique Lyonnais. John Textor has come under serious pressure at Parc OL after the sackings of both Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso in the first few months of the campaign with them languishing in the bottom two and the relegation places.

However, ever since the early December appointment of Pierre Sage, Lyon now sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table and could push towards the European spots in the final four matches of the campaign. They were, though, hammered 4-1 by defending champions and league leaders Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes last weekend.

MONACO

Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter, Monaco have been one of the most entertaining teams in Ligue 1. The visitors begin the 31st match day of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign sitting tucked inside the top three and the UEFA Champions League spots after a much-improved last couple of months.

The Monagasque come into this one on the back of a vital and comfortable 1-0 victory over Lille over a similarly important 2-0 win away to Stade Brest last weekend. That means they have now managed four successive victories and they have now suffered just one loss in their last 12 matches since mid-January.

THE TEAM NEWS

LYON

Pierre Sage and Olympique Lyonnais is, for the first time this season, blessed with a fully fit and available squad so he’ll be able to name an unchanged eleven.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Lopes; Maitland-Niles, O’Brien, Caleta-Car, Henrique; Caqueret, Matic; Nuamah, Cherki, Benrahma; Lacazette

MONACO

There are a few key concerns for Monaco this weekend as they travel to Parc OL with defender Ismail Jakobs and attacking midfielder Aleksandar Golovin unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Majecki; Vanderson, Maripan, Kehrer, Diatta; Akliouche, Zakaria, Fofana, Minamino; Balogun, Ben Yedder

UNAVAILABLE: Golovin (Injured), Jakobs (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

We have the potential for an absolute thriller for the neutral. Lyon, who have the Coupe de France final against PSG to look forward to next month, have won 16 and drawn one of their last 21 matches across all competitions. Monaco have been Ligue 1’s entertainers this season with Hutter’s intense pressing style of football consisting of 94 goals in their 30 matches. Both teams scoring seems a really good bet for this one this weekend.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
