THE LOWDOWN

WEST HAM

West Ham United come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Freiburg in their most recent outing in Baden-Wurttemberg on Thursday evening in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie. Austrian international Michael Gregoritsch scored a 79th minute winner in that match.

The Hammers had been winless in the first couple of months of this year but they have now enjoyed back-to-back victories in the Premier League ahead of this one. Jarrod Bowen scored a hat-trick as they defeated Brentford by four goals to two at the London Stadium before coming from behind to win 3-1 at Goodison Park against Everton.

BURNLEY

After 27 seconds last weekend, former West Bromwich Albion defender Dara O’Shea was shown a yellow card for time wasting as Burnley were drawing 0-0 at home with an AFC Bournemouth side that hadn’t won on Boxing Day. It may appear harsh to say but that is a very good summary to show where Burnley are at at the minute.

The Clarets, who are still sticking with Vincent Kompany in the dugout despite mounting pressure from the fan base with the Lancastrians seemingly having already accepted their fate, went on to lose that game by two goals to nil at Turf Moor and they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting 11 points adrift.

THE TEAM NEWS

WEST HAM

David Moyes has said that Ivorian attacker Maxwel Cornet will be unavailable for this weekend against his former club as he is still nursing a hamstring injury on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers also have a couple of defensive injury concerns as Emerson Palmieri picked up a groin injury and will have to be assessed, whilst Nayef Ageurd was described as 'question mark' after missing the clash with Freiburg in midweek.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Areola; Coufal, Mavropanos, Zouma, Cresswell; Soucek, Alvarez; Bowen, Ward-Prowse, Kudus; Antonio

UNAVAILABLE: Cornet (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ageurd (Injured), Emerson (Injured)

BURNLEY

Vincent Kompany have several injury issues for this weekend's clash with West Ham. The Clarets will be able to welcome back captain Josh Brownhill after he served a one-match ban for picking up a red card against Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago.

Among those that are sidelined through injury include former Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Jordan Beyer, as well as Aaron Ramsey and Lyle Foster.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Trafford; Assignon, O'Shea, Esteve, Taylor; Vitinho, Berge, Brownhill, Odobert; Fofana, Larsen

UNAVAILABLE: Beyer (Injured), Ramsey (Injured), Redmond (Injured), Koleosho (Injured), Foster (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

West Ham United may rest and rotate for this one on Sunday because of their trip to Germany in midweek and they have the all important second-leg in just a few days’ time but even if they do they are still the heavy favourites. Burnley are a poor team that lack any real strengths anywhere on the pitch and their easy on the eye identity has also now been washed away. A comfortable Hammers victory is to be expected in the capital on Sunday.

TIP: WEST HAM TO WIN
