THE LOWDOWN
NOTTINGHAM FOREST
During the week, the Premier League confirmed that Nottingham Forest had been unsuccessful in their appeal against their recent four-point deduction so they do head into the final two matches of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign sitting just three points above the bottom three and the relegation places.
The pressure was eased on Forest last weekend, though, as they went away to bottom-of-the-table and already relegated Sheffield United and dispatched of the Blades by three goals to one with a brace from Callum Hudson-Odoi as well as a strike from Ryan Yates. That ended a four-match winless run of form in the league.
CHELSEA
Chelsea have shown glimpses of real high level quality throughout the season but poor defending and a lack of consistency has majorly undermined Mauricio Pochettino’s first season in charge of the Blues. However, they are heading into the final couple of games with a real chance of squeezing themselves into the top six in the Premier League.
They come into this one on the back of back-to-back to nil victories in London derbies against Tottenham Hotspur and then West Ham United. In their most recent outing, a 5-0 hammering of West Ham, the goals were scored by Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Noni Madueke as well as a brace by Nicolas Jackson.
THE TEAM NEWS
NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Nuno Espirito Santo was not asked any questions regarding the team news in his pre-match press conference but he had previously said that Neco Williams was the only injury concern.
There is, though, an expectation that the Welshman will be back on the final day of the season. They have recently welcomed back both Willy Boly and Taiwo Awoniyi from injury issues.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Sels; Montiel, Boly, Murillo, Aina; Yates, Danilo; Elanga, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood
UNAVAILABLE: Williams (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
CHELSEA
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that both Lesley Ugochukwu and club captain Reece James have returned to full training and could be in the squad after a long-term injury issues.
The Blues welcomed back Thiago Silva, Malo Gusto, Christopher Nkunku and Raheem Sterling last weekend but the likes of Ben Chilwell and Enzo Fernandez remain among a group of first-teamers that are sidelined.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Gusto, Chalobah, Silva, Marc Cucurella; Gallagher, Moises Caicedo; Madueke, Palmer, Mudryk; Jackson
UNAVAILABLE: Fofana (Injured), Chilwell (Injured), Lavia (Injured), Fernandez (Injured), Chukwuemeka (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Sanchez (Injured), James (Injured), Ugochukwu (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
There is a chance that Nottingham Forest begin this encounter sitting level on points with Chelsea in the table if Luton Town go to the London Stadium and defeat West Ham United in David Moyes’ final home game in charge of the Irons earlier in the day. Chelsea have been the league’s entertainers this season with their 35 matches consisting of 129 goals. Chelsea, therefore, will always be a thrill to watch, whilst Forest will seek to be on the front foot at the City Ground so both teams scoring would seem a good bet.
TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
