THE LOWDOWN

MAN UTD

  • Under the management of Erik ten Hag, Manchester United have been extremely impressive. The Dutchman isn’t necessarily working wonders with the squad assembled but there is a stark improvement based on simply being more competent, both on and off the pitch. That off-field competence was shown by the swift signing of Marcel Sabitzer on deadline day after news of Christian Eriksen’s injury that will keep the Dane out until the spring.
  • Christian Eriksen will be out for some time with a foot injury and Scott McTominay is also absent so central midfield will likely consist of Brazilian pair Fred and Casemiro, who is now free of suspension.

CRYSTAL PALACE

  • Patrick Vieira was also busy and active on deadline day with midfield duo, Naouirou Ahamada and Albert Sambi Lokonga, arriving at Selhurst Park. That refreshed look to the Palace midfield should act as a solid foundation for an already impressive collection of stars further forward. The Eagles’ most recent outing was a goalless draw with high-flying Newcastle a couple of weeks ago.
  • Influential attacker Wilfried Zaha will be out for a couple of weeks with a hamstring strain suffered in the stalemate with Newcastle, and that could potentially bring about a change of approach in formation.

THE PREDICTION

The aforementioned goalless draw that Palace shared with Newcastle a couple of weeks ago came just a few days after the visitors managed a 1-1 draw with Newcastle’s top four rivals Manchester United. The Croydon club have been quite ineffective on the road with just two victories in their nine matches away from Selhurst Park. Manchester United could start to feel the effects of a lack of ten Hag rotation but The Red Devils remain in fine form, despite some slow starts to matches. Just nine of their 27 goals scored in all competitions since the break for the World Cup have come in the first-half of matches. A fairly comfortable home win is expected in the end, though.

TIP: DOUBLE RESULT – DRAW / MAN UTD
