THE LOWDOWN
MAN CITY
Manchester City continued their excellent form in midweek as they thrashed Luton Town by six goals to two at Kenilworth Road in the fifth round of the FA Cup in midweek. Erling Haaland scored five goals in that game as he attempts to overcome recent criticism that had suggested the Norwegian international was running low on confidence.
City are now unbeaten in their last 18 matches across all competitions as they chase a historic ‘double treble’. They will win the Premier League if they win every game between now and the end of the season, whilst also getting into the last eight of the cup and having a 3-1 lead in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Copenhagen.
MAN UTD
Erik ten Hag is still under huge pressure as Manchester United boss as they continued their really underwhelming form, especially in terms of performances, with a much-needed, slender 1-0 defeat of Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in the FA Cup fifth round in midweek with a late winner scored by Casemiro.
In 37 matches across all competitions so far this season, Manchester United have managed just five victories by more than a solitary goal thus far. Despite beginning the year well, in terms of results, they were never convincing and their 2-1 defeat at home to Fulham last weekend did not come as much of a surprise.
THE TEAM NEWS
MAN CITY
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City will be without England international Jack Grealish for this weekend after he limped off against Luton Town. However, the former Barcelona boss offered no timescale on Grealish's absence.
The other concern for City is Croatian defender, Josko Gvardiol, who has been missing recently with an ankle injury but he could return for this weekend's derby at the Etihad.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Dias, Ake; Rodri, Silva; Foden, De Bruyne, Doku; Haaland
UNAVAILABLE: Grealish (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Gvardiol (Injured)
MAN UTD
Erik ten Hag has been dealing with lots of injuries throughout this season and the former Ajax boss but he was able to tell reporters that both Raphael Varane and Bruno Fernandes shrugged off minor injury concerns to play the full game against Nottingham Forest in midweek.
Harry Maguire is expected to remain unavailable, too, for an unspecified reason, whilst the likes of Luke Shaw, Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount are all among those on a long injury list.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Onana; Dalot, Varane, Evans, Amrabat; Casemiro, Mainoo; Antony, Fernandes, Garnacho; Rashford
UNAVAILABLE: Maguire (Injured), Martinez (Injured), Wan-Bissaka (Injured), Shaw (Injured), Malacia (Injured), Mount (Injured), Hojlund (Injured), Martial (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
THE PREDICTION
During Erik ten Hag’s reign, the Manchester derby has an aggregate score of 12-5 with City winning three but United, in controversial circumstances, earning a 2-1 win over their local rivals at Old Trafford last January. These are two rivals on paper but in reality there is a major gulf between the two sides and Manchester City, despite not quite yet being at their fluent best, should still win this one quite comfortably.
TIP: MAN CITY TO WIN
