THE LOWDOWN

EVERTON

With Sean Dyche deciding that swapping his suit for a tracksuit may beneficial to him and his Everton side, the Toffees benefitted majorly from some quite clearly bad decision-making at Goodison Park as they defeated fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest by two goals to nil with Forest denied at least one and probably two or three penalties.

Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil scored goals for Everton and that means their 6-0 loss to Chelsea the week before at Stamford Bridge has been sandwiched by two home wins whereby they have defeated teams in what were ‘six-pointers’ with the win before Forest being against struggling Burnley.

LIVERPOOL

It was an absolutely vital result and performance from Liverpool at Craven Cottage at the weekend as Jurgen Klopp’s title challengers defeated Fulham by three goals to one. Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a 32nd minute free-kick before Timothy Castagne equalised and then Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota scored second-half goals for the Reds.

That much-needed win came after a lacklustre performance in Bergamo whereby they defeated Atalanta by a goal to nil thanks to an early penalty from Mohamed Salah. That was a consolation as they suffered a 3-1 aggregate defeat in their UEFA Europa League quarter-final. They are level on points with Arsenal at the top-of-the-table but Manchester City do have a game-in-hand.

THE TEAM NEWS

EVERTON

Sean Dyche will be without striker Beto with the former Udinese man expected to miss the next couple of matches after being knocked unconscious with a concussion against Nottingham Forest.

His fellow forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, though, could be available and Dyche is 'hopeful'. Seamus Coleman has resumed light training but Nathan Patterson, Dele Alli and Lewis Dobbin are all missing.

PREDICTED XI (4-5-1): Pickford; Godfrey, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; McNeil, Doucoure, Gueye, Onana, Harrison; Calvert-Lewin

UNAVAILABLE: Coleman (Injured), Patterson (Injured), Alli (Injured), Dobbin (Injured), Beto (Concussion)

QUESTIONABLE: Calvert-Lewin (Injured)

LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Portugal international forward Diogo Jota, who scored at Craven Cottage last week, has suffered another injury that is expected to be out for the next couple of weeks.

Klopp didn't give a straight answer on whether there would be much rotation but did make mention of having to play the early kick off at West Ham United this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Endo, Szoboszlai; Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz

UNAVAILABLE: Matip (Injured), Bradley (Injured), Thiago (Injured), Diogo Jota (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Everton have given themselves some breathing room above the bottom three and the relegation places but the next week could well be crucial. They host both Liverpool and Brentford and will fancy their chances of securing survival before finishing with trips to Luton Town and Arsenal either side of a game against Sheffield United. Liverpool are potentially going to finish Jurgen Klopp’s final season with just an EFL Cup but with no other competitions to be distracted, they will be fully focused on their remaining league games and that clarity should indeed help them and they are firm favourites to win Klopp’s final Merseyside derby.

TIP: LIVERPOOL TO WIN
