THE LOWDOWN

CRYSTAL PALACE

Following the departure of Roy Hodgson and appointment of former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner in late-February, Crystal Palace started the Glasner reign with a 3-0 hammering of Burnley but the Eagles then endured some teething issues with a five-match winless run of form before they headed to Anfield last weekend.

Palace went away to title challenging Liverpool and managed to hold on to an impressive 1-0 victory thanks to a first-half winning goal from Eberechi Eze. Palace then put on an excellent display and performance at Selhurst Park the other day as they thrashed West Ham United by five goals to two after racing into a 4-0 lead in the opening half an hour of the game.

NEWCASTLE

Newcastle United come into this one on the back of a weekend off and that will be a huge relief to Eddie Howe so they can rest some players after a season in which their squad has been ravaged by injury. The Magpies have collected ten points from their last four matches and are beginning this week in pole position to finish in the top six and earn UEFA Europa League qualification.

Their most recent outing saw them hammer Tottenham Hotspur by four goals to nil at St James’ Park around ten days or so ago. Quick-fire first-half goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon were then followed by Isak completing a brace before Fabian Schar made it four later on in the half before full-time.

THE TEAM NEWS

CRYSTAL PALACE

Following Crystal Palace's hammering of West Ham United the other day, Oliver Glasner confirmed that midfielder Adam Wharton would be fit and available to face Newcastle this week.

The Eagles have recently brought Michael Olise back to full fitness at Selhurst Park but they have once again lost former Arsenal defender Rob Holding to a hamstring injury.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Clyne, Andersen, Richards; Munoz, Wharton, Hughes, Mitchell; Olise, Eze; Mateta

UNAVAILABLE: Johnstone (Injured), Holding (Injured), Guehi (Injured), Doucoure (Injured), Lerma (Injured), Franca (Injured)

NEWCASTLE

As mentioned, Eddie Howe has had an injury ravaged squad throughout the campaign but the Magpies could well be able to welcome Callum Wilson back from a recent tendon injury.

They still do, though, have a long injury list that includes the likes of Nick Pope, Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Kieran Trippier, Joe Willock, Joelinton, Lewis Miley and Miguel Almiron.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Dubravka; Krafth, Schar, Burn, Livramento; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Anderson; Barnes, Isak, Gordon

UNAVAILABLE: Pope (Injured), Botman (Injured), Lascelles (Injured), Targett (Injured), Trippier (Injured), Miley (Injured), Willock (Injured), Joelinton (Injured), Tonali (Suspended), Almiron (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Wilson (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Towards the end of last season, as they eased to safety under Roy Hodgson, Crystal Palace actually turned on the style and were actually high-scoring before the end of the campaign. They come into this on the back of showing signs of improvement against Manchester City before back-to-back victories. Newcastle are the Premier League’s entertainers this season with their 32 games consisting of 121 goals. Both teams scoring would seem a good bet for this one in south London.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
