THE LOWDOWN

CRYSTAL PALACE

The appointment of 2022 UEFA Europa League winning boss with Eintracht Frankfurt, Oliver Glasner, is an exciting one at Crystal Palace but the current state of the squad, their form and injury issues means the aim between now and the end of this season will be simply to avoid the drop by any means necessary.

They began his reign with an eventually comfortable 3-0 hammering of relegation-bound Burnley at Selhurst Park thanks to three goals in the second-half of that match. After that, Palace went away to Tottenham Hotspur and put themselves a goal in front thanks to an excellent free kick from Eberechi Eze before going on to lose the game by three goals to one.

LUTON

Luton Town, despite Rob Edwards insisting that he and his side do not care about the situation, were dealt a bit of a blow last week when Everton were given four points back on appeal after breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules. The Hatters are adrift in the bottom three but have a game-in-hand, as well as the possibility of another Everton points deduction – and potentially Nottingham Forest, too.

The Bedfordshire-based club put in yet another excellent, hardworking and hard-fought performance against a top team at Kenilworth Road last weekend but yet again found themselves on the receiving end of a cruel result. They fought back from 2-0 down to get level with Aston Villa before Lucas Digne scored an 89th minute winner for the Villains.

THE TEAM NEWS

CRYSTAL PALACE

Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Ghanian midfielder Jeff Schlupp returned to first-team training but the former Leicester City man will remain unavailable for this weekend's visit of Luton Town.

He will be joined on the sidelines by Brazilian attacking midfielder, Matheus Franca, who has picked up a groin injury with Eberechi Eze set to play 'more minutes' than the 65 he managed against Tottenham, last weekend.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Johnstone; Ward, Andersen, Richards; Munoz, Wharton, Lerma, Mitchell; Hughes, Eze; Mateta

UNAVAILABLE: Guehi (Injured), Holding (Injured), Doucoure (Injured), Schlupp (Injured), Olise (Injured), Franca (Injured), Rak-Sakyi (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ayew (Injured)

LUTON

Rob Edwards has said that defender Gabriel Osho is the only player that could return from Luton's long injury list for this weekend. The Hatters are therefore without key men Albert Sambi Lokonga and Elijah Adebayo.

Club captain Tom Lockyer remains unavailable after his cardiac arrest in December, whilst former Blackburn Rovers man Amari'i Bell is set for a 'lengthy' spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Kaminski; Mengi, Osho, Burke; Kabore, Clark, Barkley, Doughty; Townsend, Chong; Morris

UNAVAILABLE: Lockyer (Illness), Andersen (Injured), Johnson (Illness), Bell (Injured), Potts (Injured), Nakamba (Injured), Lokonga (Injured), Adebayo (Injured), Brown (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Osho (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

On paper, and in reality in his first game against Burnley, Oliver Glasner has been given a kind set of home fixtures to kick off his Palace reign with two of the bottom three. However, this one is not expected to be as easy as the eventually hard-fought victory over Burnley was a fortnight ago. Luton carry a threat in nearly every game and they will also believe they can minimise the issues that Palace may cause as they adapt to a new system still missing some key players, such as Michael Olise who scored an excellent goal in the reverse fixture between these two, which Luton eventually won. Siding with the visitors would seem like good value.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – LUTON TO WIN OR DRAW
