THE LOWDOWN

CHELSEA

Under the management of former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea have endured a really underwhelming campaign as they begin the ‘run-in’ sitting in the bottom-half of the Premier League. The Blues did manage to progress into the semi-finals of the FA Cup before the international break with a 4-2 defeat of Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.

That topsy-turvy, high-scoring encounter was representative of their season as a whole. It was the fourth successive match across all competitions involving Chelsea in which both teams scored at least twice in the match. Their 27 matches so far this season in the league have consisted of 92 goals.

BURNLEY

Like a few teams across the continent, such as Almeria in Spain and Salernitana in Italy, Burnley did appear set to simply be awaiting their relegation to be mathematically confirmed but now, with nine games of the campaign to go, the Clarets begin this weekend sitting just five points adrift of safety as we head into the ‘run-in’.

That is because Vincent Kompany’s struggling Lancastrians went into the March international break on the back of a much-needed but surprising 2-1 defeat of Brentford at Turf Moor a couple of weeks ago with goals coming from David Datro Fofana and Jacob Bruun Larsen. They are the second lowest scorers with the second worst defensive record in the Premier League.

THE TEAM NEWS

CHELSEA

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has rejoined the Chelsea injury list alongside the likes of Trevoh Chalobah and Carney Chukwuemeka.

The Blues may also be without Ben Chilwell, who is suffering from a dead leg, whilst Enzo Fernandez, as of Thursday, hadn't yet returned from international duty with Argentina.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Gusto, Silva, Badiashile, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Palmer, Sterling; Jackson

UNAVAILABLE: Sanchez (Injured), Fofana (Injured), Colwill (Injured), James (Injured), Ugochukwu (Injured), Chalobah (Injured), Lavia (Injured), Chukwuemeka (Injured), Nkunku (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Chilwell (Injured), Fernandez (International duty)

BURNLEY

Vincent Kompany has confirmed that defensive duo Jordan Beyer and Ameen Al Dakhil could return this season. The Clarets' boss did not speak much about if there were any other injuries but said all players on international duty had returned fine.

They will be without key striker David Datro Fofana as he is ineligible to play against his parent club, whilst the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Nathan Redmond and Luca Koleosho are out injured and missing for the rest of the campaign.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Muric; Assignon, O'Shea, Esteve, Taylor; Vitinho, Cullen, Berge, Larsen; Odobert, Foster

UNAVAILABLE: Ramsey (Injured), Koleosho (Injured), Redmond (Injured), Fofana (Ineligible)

QUESTIONABLE: Beyer (Injured), Al Dakhil (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Many people will use the stereotype that there are ‘no easy games’ in the Premier League and Chelsea have certainly tried their absolute best to make that even more believable, despite the fact they have spent over £1 billion on incoming transfers in less than two years. Burnley will be buoyed and potentially confident as they head down to the capital after their victory over Brentford but eve with that shift in mentality, Chelsea should come out on top and the likelihood is that it is another high-scoring encounter, especially given how open the Clarets have been throughout the campaign.

TIP: CHELSEA TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
