Vincent Kompany got Burnley up last season so despite a really poor campaign, the Clarets’ hierarchy stood by him when the expectation was that he was on his last legs at Turf Moor and that decision could well work out extremely well with the Lancastrians somehow giving themselves a real chance of survival.
As they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures, Burnley sit just two points off safety after an impressive run of form that began just before the March international break. Their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United last weekend means they have now suffered just one loss in their last eight matches in the Premier League.
NEWCASTLE
Newcastle United, after what has been a topsy turvy and turbulent campaign with injury ravaging their squad, look like they may well be on the verge of securing UEFA Europa Conference League qualification with just four games of the 2023/24 campaign. The Magpies are four points above West Ham United with a game-in-hand.
The Geordies come into this one on the back of a 5-1 thrashing of now relegated, bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United thanks to a brace from Alexander Isak, goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson as well as a Ben Osborn own goal. That means Newcastle have now managed three victories in their last four matches.

Vincent Kompany was expected to be without Luca Koleosho for the remainder of this season but the young Italian is apparently in a 'good place' and he may return before the end of the campaign.
Fellow attackers Aaron Ramsey and Nathan Redmond remain unavailable for the Clarets with injuries, though, whilst defenders Jordan Beyer and Ameen Al Dakhil are also out.

THE PREDICTION
Burnley were relegated on the final day of the 2021/22 campaign with a defeat at home to Newcastle United sealing their fate. This time, though, a victory would majorly boost their chances of survival. Newcastle will go to Turf Moor in excellent form and even with their injury issues, they have remained thrilling to watch at times this season, both in defence and attack. Burnley, with home advantage and major motivation to come out on top, both teams scoring looks a good bet for this one.
