THE LOWDOWN

BURNLEY

  • For Burnley, only three points here will serve as a huge significant boost to their hopes of beating the drop, when considering that they currently sit four points behind Everton and most importantly, Premier League safety.
  • This crucial match is expected to come too soon for injured centre-back Ben Mee, whilst Erik Pieters and Johann Berg Gudmundsson remain out, although there is a slight chance that Matej Vydra could return to the squad.

EVERTON

  • Everton showed admirable fight against West Ham this past Sunday after coming from behind to draw level, but were ultimately beaten 2-1 by the Hammers, maintaining their rotten run on the road which has seen them lose their last five away Premier League fixtures.
  • Injury in the warm-up to midfielder Donny van de Beek at the London Stadium ruled him out of the match and will likely prevent him from featuring here, with Frank Lampard also without two players due to suspensions in midfielder Allan and former Burnley defender Michael Keane

THE PREDICTION

This has to be considered one of the biggest matches in both Burnley and Everton’s recent history when taking into account their current positions in the table and the financial consequences that come with relegation from the Premier League. The pressure is more on Burnley, who realistically need to win this game whilst a point, although unlikely to be greeted with much celebration by Evertonians, would at least maintain breathing space between the Toffees and the bottom three. Burnley will no doubt try and build from a solid backline, drawing on Everton struggles in front of goal and attempt to utilise set pieces to their advantage in particular. However, the Clarets themselves are in dire attacking form, not scoring in their last four league matches. When factoring in the form of both teams offensively, combined with the magnitude of such an occasion, goals are expected to be at a premium in what should prove an extremely nervy encounter. Regardless of the final outcome, back under 2.5 goals to be scored.

Tip: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
