THE TEAM NEWS

EXETER

  • Exeter City will have to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Colchester United if they are to make it through to the League Two play-off final for the third time in four years.
  • The defeat against Colchester extended their poor form from before the enforced break and means they have now failed to win any of their last six matches in all competitions.
  • Experienced forward Lee Martin is expected to miss out due to an injury he picked up in the first leg and striker Nicky Ajose is not certain to play after missing Thursday’s match

COLCHESTER

  • Colchester United travel to Exeter with a 1-0 lead after Cohen Bramall’s late free-kick gave John McGreal’s side the advantage ahead of the second leg.
  • In a game of few chances both defences were on top and it took a moment of brilliance from Bramall to separate the the two teams in their first competitive game since March 7.
  • John McGreal is not expected to make any big changes for this match, Callum Harriott is back in contention after missing Thursday’s match and he will be at least on the bench.

THE PREDICTION

Colchester have a crucial 1-0 advantage coming into the second-leg after their late winning goal broke the deadlock in a tight first-leg tussle between the two teams. The visitors also stifled their opponents in their league game in Exeter in January which finished 0-0 so will feel they know how to keep Exeter’s attacking threat at bay. Keeping Exeter scoreless for a third match in a row won’t be easy though and the home team are expected to make a breakthrough at some point, but Colchester are also capable of finding the net if the game opens up and a 1-1 draw will be good enough to see them progress to the final.
