THE LOWDOWN

CERCLE BRUGGE

After a top eight finish, Cercle Brugge’s 2023/24 aims are to finish in the top six and, under the management of Miron Muslic, they have enjoyed an impressive opening couple of months. They begin this weekend sitting inside the aforementioned top six, reliant on some steady form at the back.

They come into this on the back of a goalless draw in the derby against Club Brugge a couple of weeks ago, which followed on from being hammered 3-0 by Anderlecht and being knocked out of the cup on penalties by Zulte-Waregem. However, they have been generally impressive with just 14 goals conceded in their 14 matches so far this season.

EUPEN

Under the management of former Wolfsburg boss Florian Kohfeldt, Eupen started the season very well but one of the pre-season favourites for relegation have struggled quite badly as the season has gone on as they return from the international break sitting just outside of the bottom four and the end of season relegation playoff places.

The visitors’ most recent outing was a very disappointing 3-1 defeat at home to Racing White Daring Molenbeek a couple of weeks ago. That loss means they have now managed to pick up just one win in their last ten matches across all competitions after beginning the season with three wins and a draw in their opening five games.

THE TEAM NEWS

CERCLE BRUGGE

Miron Muslic has a few injury concerns but nothing fresh so Cercle Brugge would be able to name an unchanged eleven for this weekend’s visit of Eupen.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Warleson; Siquet, Popovic, Daland, Nazinho; De Wilde, Utkus; Lemarechal, Olaigbe, Gboho; Denkey

UNAVAILABLE: da Silva (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ravych (Injured), Abu Francis (Injured)

EUPEN

Florian Kohfeldt has had the likes of Brian Lambert and Bartosz Bialek out for some time and they remain doubts but there is nothing new in terms of unavailable players.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Slonina; Paeshuyse, Palsson, Kral; Magnee, Keita, Christie-Davies, Mohwald, Van Genechten; Nuhu, Pantovic

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Lambert (Injured), Alloh (Injured), Bialek (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These two sides are enjoying and enduring very different seasons. Cercle Brugge are living up to their lofty and ambitious pre-season expectations, albeit they are doing it in a fairly conservative and uninspiring manner in terms of their style. Eupen thought the former Wolfsburg boss Kohfeldt would have inspired a little more consistency other than their early burst but they are now really struggling and Cercle, especially at the Janbreydelstadion, should come out on top in this one.

BETTING TIP: CERCLE BRUGGE TO WIN
