NIGER PREVIEW: KEEPING IT TIGHT

Under the management of former Wydad Casablanca and Real Mallorca goalkeeper Ezzaki Badou, known as Zaki, Niger are currently the number 125 team in the world, according to FIFA’s rankings.

The ‘Menas’ began their 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a slender 1-0 loss to Sudan at the Juba Stadium in Juba. Former Bradford City and Grimsby Town winger Abo Eisa scored a 51st minute winner in that game for the Sudanese.

GHANA PREVIEW: CONTINUING TO UNDERPERFORM

Despite qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Ghana have basically underperformed for about a decade now and after Chris Hughton left following their group stage elimination at the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, things have not massively improved.

He has been replaced by former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach Otto Addo, who was in charge at the FIFA World Cup, and the Black Stars continued their underwhelming form with a 1-0 loss at home to Angola with a 93rd minute winner from Felicio Milson.

NIGER TEAM NEWS: SOLID ENOUGH

In a narrow defeat to Sudan, Niger will have been quite content with that performance so the likelihood is that they name an unchanged eleven for this one against Ghana.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Younoussa Hainikoye; Yakubu, Boueye, Katakore, Alhassane; Oumarou, Diabate, Moussa; Goumey, Sosah, Adamou Gora

GHANA TEAM NEWS: COUPLE OF ISSUES

Ghana may need to make changes to try and turn their form around but Otto Addo remains hamstrung by the injury absences of both Gideon Mensah and Ibrahim Sulemana.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Ati-Zigi; Lamptey, Mumin, Salisu, Seidu; Owusu, Partey; Fatawu, Kudus, Semenyo; Ayew

UNAVAILABLE: Mensah (Injured), Sulemana (Injured)

NIGER VS GHANA PREDICTION

Niger performed well against Sudan the other day. They were resolute and frustrated superior opposition, albeit Sudan are no world beaters. Ghana do have genuinely world class talent in their squad but there is perhaps an over reliance on moments of magic from the likes of Mohammed Kudus rather than a cohesive attacking structure. That said, though, Ghana should surely still come out on top.
