FPL – head-to-head comparisons: Trent Alexander-Arnold vs Andy Robertson
Two of the three two top-scoring defenders from FPL last season, Trent Alexander Arnold (£7.0m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) offer excellent value for money for 2019-20. The pair comfortably outscored any player (from any position) in their current price range last season and are effectively wingers masquerading as defenders, hence their added bonuses of four points for a clean sheet. Given Robertson outscored Alexander-Arnold by 28 points last season, it is the Englishman who offers the better points per appearance ratio, outscoring Robertson by 0.48 points per game. This is perhaps a reminder that while Alexander-Arnold offers greater scoring potential when playing, at the start of last season the right back was rotated with Joe Gomez (£5.5m) until the latter suffered an injury. With Gomez back, Alexander-Arnold has a greater chance of being rested as the season progresses than Robertson, who still has no real competition for his position at left-back.
Verdict: Trent Alexander-Arnold
