FPL 2023-24 | Gameweek 16 | Captain Picks

We saw significantly different levels of success from our captain picks for Gameweek 15. Whilst both Martin Odegaard(£8.3m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.1m) gained assists, the latter also bagging a clean sheet and a haul of 12 FPL points, both Heung-Min Son (£9.6m) and our differential pick Mohammed Kudus (£6.7m) failed to make an impact and ended up only scoring 2 fantasy points a-piece.

We’ve no time to reflect on that though with another round of Premier League fixtures around the corner. So with that, it’s time to mark up three more premium captain picks for Gameweek 16 capable of large FPL hauls, alongside a differential option ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.1m) vs CRY (a)

Strike while the iron is hot as they say, Trent Alexander-Arnold is in magnificent form for Liverpool and it would be foolish not to try and take advantage of that from an FPL perspective, specifically by handing him the captaincy for Gameweek 16. The defender is coming off the back of consecutive double-figure point-scores including four attacking returns in his last four Premier League appearances, not to mention two clean sheets and a whopping 40 fantasy points accumulated over that period. The numbers are extremely enticing, as is the fixture with the Reds away to Crystal Palace, so be sure to explore captaining offensive full-back Alexander-Arnold.

Erling Haaland (£14.0m) vs LUT (a)

It’s now four league matches without a win for Man City following their loss at the hands of Aston Villa. Whether this serves as a tipping point for the champions remains to be seen, but they’ll be expected to end this barren run against Luton. The Hatters remain without a clean sheet all season and were heartbroken in midweek, losing a 3-4 thriller to Arsenal at the death. The manner of defeat must have hurt Rob Edwards’ men hugely and Haaland now looks to capitalise on what could be a tired Luton backline. Last time the Norwegian blanked, he bounced back the game after with two goals, an assist and a 16-point haul and the Premier League’s leading goalscorer is expected to rule the captaincy roost again come Gameweek 16.

Bukayo Saka (£8.9m) vs AVL (a)

Of the 15 gameweeks played thus far in the 2023-24 FPL campaign, only three of those have seen Bukayo Saka fail to pick up a single attacking return, underlining the consistency of a player currently owned by over half of the entire FPL player-base. The England international heads into Gameweek 16 on the back of recording 26 fantasy points across his last four league appearances, bagging one attacking return in each fixture. When taking into account his vast ownership, only placing the armband on Saka means you can fully capitalise on such FPL reliability.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Dwight McNeil (£5.4m) vs CHE (H)

It’s been a dream couple of gameweeks for Dwight McNeil across this past week, who is finally showing Everton fans what he can do from an attacking point of view. After netting the only goal in Everton’s 0-1 win over Nottingham Forest, the winger starred for the Toffees this past Thursday against Newcastle, scoring once and setting up another in a 3-0 victory for Sean Dyche’s side. McNeil gained fantasy scores of 8 and 14 points respectively over the course of those two fixtures and such a hot streak highlights McNeil’s differential attraction in regards to Gameweek 16 captaincy, as Everton now get set to host Chelsea.
