FPL 2022-23 | Gameweek 33 | Captain Picks

It was a story of mixed fortunes for those with Arsenal assists in Blank Gameweek 32. Whilst the key midfielders all contributed significantly, Gabriel Martinelli (£6.9m), Buyako Saka (£8.5m) and Martin Odegaard (£6.7m) all finding the net, forward Gabriel Jesus (£8.2m) drew a blank as the Gunners drew 3-3 with Southampton. Mo Salah (£12.9m) was also on the scoresheet in Liverpool’s thrilling 3-2 victory at home to Nott’m Forest, although there was no attacking return for differential pick Cody Gakpo (£7.7m) as Diogo Jota (£8.8m) bagged a brace.

With a full-round of midweek Premier League fixtures, it’s a lightning quick turnaround for FPL managers, who must immediately lock their teams in for Gameweek 33. We’re on hand to assist, picking out another three premium captaincy selections, alongside a differential option for those looking to make up ground ahead of Tuesday’s 18:00deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Erling Haaland (£12.2m) vs ARS (H)

Make no mistake about it, Erling Haaland (£12.2m) was brought in for matches like this. A potential Premier League title showdown between Man City and Arsenal headlines Gameweek 33 at the Etihad Stadium, a ground that has become synonymous with Haaland’s goals this season. The Norwegian will be looking to add to his astounding 32 Premier League goals already scored in 2022-23 in what is Man City’s most important game of the season so far.

Despite the tough fixture, it would take a very brave FPL manager not to select Haaland as their fantasy captain. With 227 points to his name and consecutive league braces heading into Gameweek 33, Haaland fully warrants the tag ‘fixture-proof asset’ and with Man City needing to beat Arsenal, expect them to come out of the traps flying come Wednesday night.

Mo Salah (£12.9m) vs WHU (a)

When it comes to playing West Ham, Mo Salah is normally one player who is afforded plenty of joy. Coming off the back of finding the net this past weekend, the Egyptian will be hoping to be in among the attacking returns once again vs the Hammers with Liverpool still fighting to try and finish in the top four, although it is looking like a very difficult task to try and catch the likes of Man Utd and Newcastle.

Salah has come into some good form recent in front of goal, scoring four goals in his last three Premier League appearances and accruing 26 fantasy points since the start of Gameweek 30. Still a crucial part of Jurgen Klopp’s the FPL-listed midfielder is expected to take his place in the starting line-up once again at the London Stadium in Gameweek 33.

Gabriel Martinelli (£6.9m) vs MCI (a)

When taking into account his current form in terms of goals and assists, Gabriel Martinelli simply has to be among the standout premium captain picks once again, despite facing such a difficult opponent in Man City away from home. Then again, this is a player who scored at Anfield back in Gameweek 30 and is more than capable of accumulating attacking returns at any given time. He is currently the highest-scoring FPL midfielder with 189 fantasy points to his name.

Most recently, Martinelli has racked up a whopping 75 points since that famous Double Gameweek 25 which saw him gain 26 points across his two fixtures played. Across this period, the Brazilian has managed to pick up seven goals and three assists for Arsenal. His threat on the counter-attack will make up a dangerous attacking outlet for the Gunners against the reigning champions.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m) vs LIV (H)

Last season, it was among the most popular FPL assets to own from an offensive perspective. But in 2022-23, Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m) hasn’t generated anywhere near as much interest, mainly due to a poor start to the campaign, which saw him fail to gain an attacking return in the Premier League until Gameweek 9. However, heading in Gameweek 33, Bowen is in-among the more in-form players across the top flight.

With an attacking return in each of his last four league matches and 24 FPL points to boot, Bowen could prove an ideal differential captain at home to Liverpool, who have proven notoriously poor defensively this season and are without a clean sheet since Gameweek 29. He has shown his ability to generate huge returns if he fires and his quality may see him play a big part here.
