England vs India prediction
The first Test of this five-match series was one to remember as England chased down a fourth innings target of 371 with five wickets remaining on a pitch that held up and remained excellent for batting across all five days. Ben Duckett’s 149 proved critical in the chase, the opener accumulating 211 runs over the course of England’s two innings.
The England bowlers also deserve credit for taking 20 wickets, with pacer Josh Tongue’s ability to clean up the tail particularly effectively. As for India, they remain far too over-reliant on Jasprit Bumrah in the bowling department and are set to be without their superstar player at Edgbaston as he is likely to be rested. Left-armer Arshdeep Singh may get the nod to replace him.
When taking into this account, not to mention the reputation Edgbaston has as a batter-friendly ground and England’s batters may well end up feasting on the India bowling attack. The hosts will be unchanged whilst India may look to adjust the batting with Karun Nair perhaps vulnerable to being dropped.
Momentum is with England though and it feels like they have a much better chance of getting 20 wickets than India and when taking this into account, the sensible move would be backing a home victory.
