Empoli recently reached the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia with a shock defeat of Juventus in the semi-finals via a penalty shootout in Turin about a week and a half ago. The home team begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places, though, with no victories in their last 12 matches in Serie A. They now face a Roma side that managed to defeat Athletic Club by two goals to one in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie as they continue to be impressive and improved under Ranieri, chasing a top seven or eight finish in Serie A. Roma will be expected to win this one against such poor opposition.
