THE LOWDOWN

OVAL INVINCIBLES

Oval Invincibles have led the way through the vast majority of the Men’s Hundred, they were the only side to get a double-figure haul of points across the group stage and finished a full four points ahead of second-placed Manchester Originals. The Invincibles come into the final having won six of eight group fixtures, losing just once. This despite losing in-form batter Jordan Cox through injury. Irish batter Paul Stirling has been signed specifically for this final to compensate for overseas departures within their squad, just as he was in 2021 by Southern Brave whom he helped win the title.

MANCHESTER ORIGINALS

Manchester Originals come into the final on the back of a record run-chase in the Men’s Hundred at the Kia Oval during last night’s eliminator. It wasn’t looking good for the Originals after they conceded a mammoth 191/1 bowling first. However, they boast the most destructive opening partnership in the tournament in the shape of Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, both of whom laid the foundations for a successful chase. Salt smoked 47 in just 17 balls, whilst skipper Buttler hit 82 from 46 balls before Laurie Evans helped see the team home with an unbeaten 22 alongside Jamie Overton.

THE PREDICTION

Whilst Manchester Originals have momentum in their favour when considering that they competed less than 24 hours earlier and two openers capable of single-handedly winning this final, Oval Invincibles are the better team as a whole. They smashed the Originals in the group stage and whilst it won’t be the same team who features here, the spine of the Invincibles remains intact. Tactically on point, strength-in-depth with the bat and shrewd bowling options, Oval Invincibles are the side best equipped to keep Salt and Buttler quiet at Lord’s, so back Sam Billings’ side to be the ones celebrating come the end of the night.
