THE TEAM NEWS

CAPE TOWN BLITZ

  • After winning three of their opening four matches in this edition of the MSL, Cape Town Blitz have lost their last three matches and with just three matches remaining, they desperately need a win here to catapult them back in contention for a play-off place.
  • Two of their remaining three fixtures are against the unbeaten Tshwane Spartan so they have a tough challenge ahead of them but they will take heart from the fact that they comfortably beat them in both meetings last season.
  • Since they were bowled out for just 84 in their second game, the batting has been outstanding as they have hit 174 or more in four of their last five matches but after posting 181/5 batting first last time out against Durban Heat, they could not defend that total so they will have to improve with the ball against the Spartans.

TSHWANE SPARTANS

  • Tshwane Spartans have clicked into gear now after a slow start when three of their first four matches were washed out and they sit top of the MSL ladder as the only unbeaten team in the tournament.
  • Their last victory came against Paarl Rocks on Friday as they bowled their opening out for the second consecutive match so the bowlers are setting the platform for the side as Morkel, Ngidi, Van der Merwe and Curran are finding form.
  • After Dean Elgar hit to half centuries earlier in the tournament, star man AB de Villiers has joined the party with two back-to-back fifties himself and the batting is looking formidable which makes them an outstanding and well-balanced side.

THE PREDICTION

Tshwane Spartans are the form team in the Mzansi Super League right now but this will be a tough examination of their unbeaten run against a motivated Cape Town Blitz team. The home side are firing with the bat, but their bowlers have not quite matched that form and they are vulnerable. The Spartans on the other hand have produced the goods with bat, ball and in the field as they look one of the most complete teams overall. They look to be clicking into gear at the right time and it will take an impressive performance to beat them, but the Blitz are due one of those and they may just inflict their first defeat of MSL 2019 on home turf.
