THE TEAM NEWS
INDIA
- India suffered a second straight loss to begin their T20 World Cup campaign and that has resulted in their fate being out of their own hands with a spot in the semi-final looking extremely unlikely at this stage.
- Despite starting the tournament as favourites, India backed up their loss to Pakistan with a defeat against New Zealand last time out and the pressure is well and truly on their bowling unit in particular having taken just two wickets in their two games so far.
AFGHANISTAN
- Afghanistan made it two wins from their three matches to date after they proved to be far too good for Namibia in their latest outing and they will fancy their chances of causing an upset here.
- The Afghans performed well with both bat and ball with their batsmen doing a solid job to post 160/5 before the bowling unit combined to limit the Namibians to just 98/9 and that was without Mujeeb Ur Rahman who will hope to prove his fitness for this contest.
THE PREDICTION
India have not lived up to their billing as pre-tournament favourites
and an early exit appears to be on the cards having lost both of their
matches so far at the T20 World Cup. They simply have to win this clash
with Afghanistan and it would aid their cause to do so in style but with
two wins from three, the Afghans will have other ideas. They should not
be underestimated and with plenty of quality with both bat and ball,
they should be favoured in the match handicap with a +5.5 wicket/+25.5
run start.
