Sonay Kartal vs Xinyu Wang prediction

Sonay Kartal marked her return to the WTA Tour with a straight sets win over Andrea Lazaro Garcia. The 24-year-old suffered an injury at Indian Wells and was out of action for nearly six months, making her return at the Billie Jean King Cup last week. Kartal, who progressed to the quarter-finals of this tournament last year, broke on five occasions as she easily won 6-2 6-3.

The Brit will now face Xinyu Wang, who received a bye in the opening round as the 31st seed. She will be hoping for a strong showing at her home event, having suffered a surprising early loss in 2025. The Chinese player began her Asian swing at the Singapore Open, beating Donna Vekic and Joanna Garland to secure a place in the quarter-finals. However, she would then lose out in three sets against Tatiana Prozorova. 

Kartal performed strongly here last year and has already looked sharp on her return to action. She should be able to make this a competitive encounter.
