THE LOWDOWN
WEST INDIES
West Indies would have been delighted to restrict England to just 171 after the start made by the tourists during the opening powerplay, Andre Russell starring with the ball on his return to the side and Alzarri Joseph also impressing. Whilst nobody played a particularly big innings with the bat, plenty of players contributed with meaty scores in the 20s and 30s, which eventually led to the Windies chasing down their victory target with 11 balls to spare.
ENGLAND
An England batting collapse cost them a substantial score batting first against in the opening T20i. The tourists went from 117/3 to 171 all out, which was unlikely to be enough on a good Kensington Oval surface that suited the plethora of Windies big-hitters. Despite the best efforts of leg-spin duo Rehan Ahmed and Adil Rashid, England were unable to contain their opponents and were defeated comfortably in the end.
THE PREDICTION
It’s worrying times at the moment for England, who simply can’t reverse a losing cycle currently. Their batting is prone to dramatic collapses, whilst the bowling attack cannot contain the home side at present. One can’t help but think that the visiting players have an eye on Christmas at home with their families at this point and a razor-sharp Windies are well worth backing to make it 2-0 in the T20i series.
