Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka by 22 runs

  • Sri Lanka failed to secure the ODI series against Zimbabwe as they succumbed to defeat in their second clash, ultimately falling short in what was a valiant attempt to chase down a daunting target of 303.
  • The hosts finished on 280/9 and looked a batter short despite Dasun Shanaka’s captain’s knock of 102 but he was offered very little support other than Kamindu Mendis who struck a half-century.

  • Zimbabwe were excellent as they kept the series alive and forced a decider against Sri Lanka with a thrilling success in the second game with their efforts with the bat setting up an exciting finale in Kandy.
  • Skipper Craig Ervine led the way with a score of 91 to help his side to a score of 30/8 before the bowling unit did their job when sweeping through the lower order to get the job done.

After two highly entertaining games, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe will draw the series to a close in what is expected to be another enthralling clash. The pair have produced some excellent cricket so far, largely with the bat, and that is likely to be the case again here. Both teams can prevail which adds to the intrigue but with Zimbabwe looking more solid across the board in the series so far, they can just do enough to earn the series victory in another game in which the runs should flow.
