THE LOWDOWN

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS

  • Kolkata Knight Riders are still searching to repeat their glory days which saw them win two IPL titles in three years back in 2012 and 2014, so have made a major move in an attempt to establish themselves as an IPL force once again.
  • The big excitement from a KKR point of view is the presence of left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc, making his return to the IPL for the first time since 2015 and doing so as the most expensive player in the competition’s history, after being bought at auction by the Knight Riders for 24.75 crore.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

  • Newly signed marquee overseas player Pat Cummins has been tasked to turn around the fortunes of the 2023 IPL’s bottom-placed side, the Australian fast bowler having been named captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024.
  • SRH’s last Aussie captain, opener David Warner led them to their only IPL triumph to date back in 2016 and with the likes of Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram among their squad, it’s brute power that SRH are seemingly banking on to help them gain success in 2024.

THE PREDICTION

Cummins’ first assignment as Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper sees him travel to former side Kolkata Knight Riders, who are all set to unleash Starc on the SRH batters at what will be an expectant Eden Gardens crowd. KKR have plenty to prove this season and whilst their team doesn’t look the strongest on paper, they have recruited shrewdly and could surprise a few. With a genuine gamechanger in Starc leading the charge with the ball, it’s worth backing KKR to come out on top in this contest.

TIP: KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS TO WIN
