THE TEAM NEWS

SRI LANKA

  • Sri Lanka fell to a fifth defeat from six matches at the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup as they were defeated by Fiji in an entertaining contest but they were made to pay for a poor showing in the middle of the game.
  • After edging a narrow first quarter by a point, Fiji outscored the Sri Lankans 37-17 in the middle quarters which took the game away from them although they bounce back to outscore the Fijians in the final quarter.
  • That should give them a little bit of momentum to take into this final encounter with Singapore with the Sri Lankans relying on star goal attack Tharjini Sivalingam to lead the way after netting 271 goals in the tournament so far.

SINGAPORE

  • Singapore are still yet to win a game in this Netball World Cup after they lost their sixth consecutive game following a 49-63 defeat against Samoa in their final game of Group E.
  • Charmaine Soh again highlighted her importance to this team as she added 21 goals against Samoa, taking her tally for the competition to 120 which is over double the number of the second highest scorer on the team.
  • Kai Wei Toh has contributed 49 goals so far whilst Kimberly Lim has provided a team-high 61 assists and will be the key trio to Singapore’s chances of ending the tournament with a victory under their belt.

THE PREDICTION

The two teams with the worst records in the tournament meet in what will be their final game as they bid to avoid the wooden spoon. Singapore have struggled throughout and the side ranked 24th in the world face another tough task in their final game as they face-off against the side ranked five places above them in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankans have struggled for consistency during their matches but should have too much for Singapore to avoid finishing last in the tournament.
