- New Zealand reached their second consecutive World Cup final by stunning India in their rain interrupted semi-final at Old Trafford in dramatic fashion as they successfully defended their total of 239/8 by 18 runs.
- The bowlers once again played a key role with Boult, Henry and Santner making major inroads into the Indian batting line-up which ultimately made the difference but some brilliant fielding and dogged batting was just as important in that victory.
- An unchanged line-up is surely on the cards for this final despite the issues with the opening batsmen rearing its ugly head once again in that semi, and Guptill and Nicholls seem likely to get the benefit of the doubt once more here.

- England reached their first final in 27 years by comprehensively outplaying Australia at Edgbaston on Thursday as they come into this match against New Zealand full of confidence and with real optimism for what could be their first ever World Cup triumph.
- Despite losing the toss and fielding first, their bowling was outstanding with Woakes and Archer getting them off to a great start early on and they were well supported by Adil Rashid who made some key breakthroughs in the middle overs to restrict Australia to 223 all out, while their fielding was outstanding too.
- It seems unfathomable that they could make any changes to their starting line-up which has been performing so well in recent matches although they will monitor the injury Jonny Bairstow sustained when running between the wickets while batting, though the Yorkshireman will surely play through any discomfort.
THE PREDICTION
England come into this final desperate to win their first ever World Cup after having lost their previous three finals they reached in 1979, 1987 and 1992. With home advantage, confidence will be high especially after overcoming Australia in the semi-finals and combined with the fact that they comfortably beat New Zealand in the group phase. Kane Williamson’s men will be buoyed by their heroic win over India in the semi-finals and are relishing the role of underdog after being written off in so many different quarters. They too have the opportunity of winning the trophy for the first time after being runners-up to neighbours Australia four years ago. Once again, this match will likely come down to the key performers on both teams being able to produce the goods, but England have much more quality and depth in their ranks, and this is their final to lose at Lord’s.
