- Pakistan’s loss to India last Sunday at Old Trafford was a tough one for various reasons as not only was the heavy defeat against their archrivals, but they remain with just three points with four games to play which makes this match must-win.
- Changes could well be on the cards once again for the team and Shoaib Malik’s place in the team has to be in doubt after a second consecutive duck while Hasan Ali’s struggles with the ball continue so Haris Sohail and talented youngster Mohammad Hasnain could well be handed recalls to the side here.
- Despite just one win so far, England’s loss to Sri Lanka will give them some hope that if they can win this game, then they have a chance put some pressure on if they can string a couple of wins together with New Zealand, Afghanistan and Bangladesh their upcoming fixtures.
SOUTH AFRICA

- South Africa contrived to lose their fourth game in the tournament on Wednesday against New Zealand which essentially has eliminated them from the competition now and some poor batting, average fielding and tame bowling saw them throw away some good positions in that game.
- The batting continues to be an issue as they lost early wickets once again in setting another below par total and they have struggled against quality bowling attacks which does not bode well against an in-form Mohammad Amir.
- Andile Phehlukwayo struggled in that match proving to be the most expensive bowler and being out for a duck and he could drop out of the team here if they do consider shaking things up and giving some playing time to the players who have not played much.
THE PREDICTION
The feeling around South Africa is that their tournament is over now and they are resigned to playing out what has been a miserable tournament. While they may benefit from the pressure being off now, they simply have very few players with any real form behind them. Pakistan on the other hand will be motivated to get a win and boost their outside chances of a top four spot. Their chances are remote but they are playing hard and have some players like Mohammad Amir especially who are in superb form and that should be enough to guide them to victory here.
