- England’s excellent win over India on Sunday has eased the pressure on them significantly coming into this match with the Blackcaps but they know they still have to win this game to be 100% certain of a semi-final spot.
- Liam Plunkett came in for the India match and was a key figure in the middle overs yet again taking three of the five wickets for 55 runs from his ten overs which will surely earn him another start ahead of Moeen Ali for this key match.
- The pitch at Edgbaston certainly favoured England on Sunday and there is every chance that the track in Durham will be a similarly high-scoring pitch after Sri Lanka and West Indies combined to score over 650 total runs on Monday, so Roy, Bairstow and company will be relishing this one once again.
NEW ZEALAND

- New Zealand’s defeat to neighbours Australia on Saturday leaves them under some pressure to get a result here even if it would take something pretty exceptional for them to not reach the semi-finals now due to their superior run rate.
- The disappointing 86-run defeat at Lords on Saturday was frustrating especially having reduced Australia to 92/5 and to compound matters, the changes they made to the team by bringing Henry Nicholls and Ish Sodhi into the side
- After losing their last two matches, they will be keen to reverse this negative trend and get back to winning ways for this key game for which they may decide to bring Matt Henry back into the side while Colin Munro could also return.
THE PREDICTION
Plenty on the line for both of these teams as hosts England meet New Zealand in Durham with both needing a win to cement their semi-final places. They come into the match with contrasting moods as England have been boosted by the tremendous win over India on Sunday while New Zealand have lost their last two and there are signs that the wheels are coming off. They may well have enough already with their 11 points, but they will still want to make sure of it with a win here. That said, their form is woeful as they have struggled against the better teams in the second half of their schedule and this will be a tough ask against this strong England team who should pick up another win.
