- England are coming off the shock defeat of the tournament so far as Sri Lanka upset them on Friday at Headingley as they fell 20 runs short of Sri Lanka’s total of 232/9 and were bowled out for just 212 to leave them under some pressure to win two of their remaining three matches to seal a semi-final place.
- The team are still sweating on the fitness of Jason Roy who continues to recover from a hamstring injury but he is highly unlikely to play so Bairstow and Vince should continue to open although their partnership has yet to convince.
- Despite the loss to Sri Lanka, England are unlikely to make changes for this game as the bowling unit was excellent in that game and with Roy’s injury, they are unable to change things around with the bat as Liam Plunkett and Tom Curran are their only alternatives on the sideline.
AUSTRALIA

- Australia come into this crunch match with England at Lords in good form having won their last three matches with their batting improving in every game as they come off hitting 381/5 against Bangladesh last Thursday.
- The form of Finch and Warner at the top of the order continues to set the platform with the duo combining for three centuries and five fifties and both sit within the top four batsmen for runs scored, so they will aim for that to continue and get them off to a strong start against England.
- The starting line-up is extremely settled at the moment and the likelihood is that they name an unchanged team once again as they seek to get one over England and put the hosts’ chances of a semi-final place in jeopardy.
THE PREDICTION
Following England’s shock loss to Sri Lanka on Friday, this match has become even bigger following that game and the pressure is on England to get the win. Australia are in fine form at present and their batting is in superb shape but they will be tested by the raw pace of Archer and Wood, and a bowling unit that is in good form itself. The match could well revolve around which version of England’s batting is going to show up and the likelihood is that they will have to dig in and grit it out at times which they failed to do against Sri Lanka. The opening partnership continues to be a weakness for them without Jason Roy and that chink in their armour could leave them on the back foot right from the start and hand the initiative to Australia.
