- Bangladesh put up a brave fight but ultimately lost to India by 28 runs on Tuesday at Edgbaston as their slim hopes of reaching the semi-finals were brought to an end but there have been plenty of positives for them to take from this excellent World Cup campaign.
- They will be motivated to end on a high note as they come up against a Pakistan side who they have beaten in their last four meetings and they may not be afforded the luxury of making any rotations due to injuries in the camp.
- Shakib Al Hasan continued his sparkling form against India as he hit yet another fifty to make it two centuries and four fifties in seven innings during the World Cup as he will be motivated to surpass Rohit Sharma as top runscorer in the tournament and finish with a flourish.
PAKISTAN

- Pakistan come into this final group match knowing they have virtually no chance of reaching the semi-finals now after England’s win over New Zealand on Wednesday as their only chance now is to bat first and win by a margin of over 300 runs, while bowling first will eliminate them without a ball being bowled.
- Their form has been exceptional in the last three matches having won all three but they almost lost to Afghanistan last time out as they needed some late heroics from Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz with the bat to carry them past a modest target of 228.
- Their motivation may dip for this game especially if Bangladesh win the toss and decide to bat first although they are likely to name an unchanged side and they will want to end the tournament on a high note against a regional rival.
THE PREDICTION
It is difficult to see how Pakistan will be able to motivate themselves for this match given the margin of victory required to reach the semi-finals is virtually impossible. They almost slipped up against Afghanistan last time and now they face a Bangladesh side that has performed admirably in this World Cup and have won the last four meetings between the two teams. To add to Bangladesh’s motivation, they can finish above Pakistan in the standings and could finish as high as fifth which would mark an excellent achievement for them. With star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan keen to continue his stunning form, they could well compound Pakistan’s miseries and hand them a defeat.
