FIFA 19 eSports – Newcomer Of The Month (March)

In one of our newest features here The Stats Zone, we’re looking back at the FIFA 19 season over the last month and selecting a ‘Newcomer of the Month’. This focuses on a player who has had a breakthrough spell over the course of March, establishing themselves as a stand-out player within the FIFA 19 scene following strong performances in online and offline tournaments throughout the course of the month. This player may not have been well known within the scene previously, but have subsequently announced themselves as a player to be taken seriously.

Newcomer of the Month

The FIFA 19 player we’ve selected as our first ever Newcomer of the Month for March is Englishman Kyle Leese. Over the course of March, Kyle has moved from 170th in the FIFA 19 Global Series Rankings all the way up to 31st, and has been on a fantastic run of form that has seen him firmly establish himself in Global Series Playoff contention and a shot at making it all the way to the FIFA eWorld Cup.

Kyle started the month in the best possible way - with the biggest tournament win of his career. He competed at Old Trafford in the ePremier League club playoff for Manchester United and went all the way to win the PS4 side of the event, thus winning the opportunity to represent the Red Devils at the ePremier League finals event at the end of the month.

The following weekend, Leese took this good form into the eLions online qualification tournament. He transferred his strong offline game into online competition and with seven other players, qualified for the eLions offline LAN playoff for a chance to represent England at the FIFA eNations Cup.

A few days later, Kyle competed at the eLions event and made it to the PS4 grand final after beating Man City’s Shellzz 7-4 on aggregate. Despite agonisingly losing out to FUTWIZ Tom in the final on penalties, Leese had laid a marker down for the ePremier League finals later in the month.

Finally, at the end of March, Kyle came to London and represented Manchester United in the ePremier League finals. Placed in a tough group against the likes of Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leese made it through to the knockout stages. It was here where he truly proved his class on the big stage, knocking out former FIWC runner up deto in a Manchester derby before beating Southampton’s Venny in the console semi-finals. He then triumphed over Jas1875 from Chelsea in a 3-2 thriller to be crowned ePL PS4 champion and went through to face number one ranked FIFA 19 player in the world - F2Tekkz - in the grand-final.

Despite losing the final, the 19-year old has announced himself on the scene as a force to be reckoned with over the past month and the 850 Global Series points won thanks to his ePremier League run should see him qualify for the Global Series Playoffs later on in the year. This run of form over March sees us name Kyle Leese as our ‘Newcomer of the Month’.
