THE TEAM NEWS
ENGLAND
Captain: Eoin Morgan
- England have this series wrapped up already coming into the fifth and final ODI against Pakistan, but they will be keen to pick up another win to continue building momentum ahead of the World Cup.
- Skipper Eoin Morgan missed the match on Friday as he was banned for one game due to the slow over rate in the third ODI but he should return here along with Jonny Bairstow who was also rested and they could replace Jason Roy and possibly Joe Root.
- Further rotations seem likely in the bowling attack also as Liam Plunkett, Chris Jordan and Chris Woakes could all come back into the side here as the competition for places among the bowlers hots up.
PAKISTAN
Captain: Sarfaraz Ahmed
- Pakistan have now lost their last nine completed ODI matches and with the World Cup on the horizon, they will be desperate to win this final match against England despite the series being sealed by the hosts already.
- The selectors appear to have decided that Asif Ali and Mohammad Amir will make the World Cup squad as Asif Ali’s form with the bat has been impressive while it has been the poor form of the bowlers in Amir’s absence that has benefited him despite his continued unavailability due to chicken pox.
- Shaheen Shah Afridi is expected to come back into the side for this match while despite his x-rays coming back negative, Imam-ul-Haq will miss out as a precaution here so Abid Ali could be handed a rare start unless Babar Azam joins Fakhar Zaman at the top of the order.
THE PREDICTION
Much will depend on the two teams’ selections coming into this game but England clearly have the edge over the tourists in this series as they sit in an unassailable 3-0 position coming into this final ODI at Headingley. There is a fair chance that the Headingley pitch will not be as high-scoring as some of the previous venues which may even things up a little but England will be confident. They will make changes but can still field an extremely strong line-up and they have to be favoured once again to win this one.
